Meet your Edible and Medicinal Plant Tour Guide!


Jim Shepherd enjoys writing, photography, hiking, fishing, and the general outdoors. He is an author and a Certified Interpretive Guide. In addition, he leads tours on Medicinal/Edible Plants and the Wallace Desert Garden, completing his seventh year as a BTA volunteer. Jim holds a bachelor's degree in mass communications from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. A Chicago native, he resides in Mesa, where he has lived for 45 years.


Duration: 50 minutes


What to expect: For more than a thousand years native trees, shrubs, and cacti have fed, healed, and clothed Sonoran Desert dwellers. During this tour identify and learn about edible and medicinal plants along the Arboretum’s Curandero Trail! NOTICE: This tour uses a steep trail that is not suitable for wheelchairs, walkers, or strollers.
